Thanks to all those members who turned up to the Barn for a great evening of fellowship and a return to some form of normality.
It is an interesting time to reflect on changes within our club as we celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia. Lakes Entrance Rotary Club was chartered in 1959 and since that time many habits and changes have occurred within our club .
It is interesting to note that during the first 40 years of our club the average age of our membership was in the 40's. Since that time our average age of members has trended towards the 70's
Thanks to Mike Anketell's 50 years of membership he was able to share we me some of the major changes within our club
- No longer are ties and jackets the standard attire for attending meetings.
- No longer do we ONLY toast the Queen at the commencement of a meeting
- No longer is it a Men's only club. Discussion around women in Rotary was topical but our club didn't need to make a decision because Sandra Marshall transferred from Morwell to Lakes Entrance. Sandra became the first female president of our club
- The 4Way Test was recited with reverence and not looking for a copy to read.
- Fines were for misdemeanors and not footy results
While many things have changed the values of Rotary have not. Our club still contributes an enormous amount to both our community and the international community and our members continue to exemplify our motto of Service Above Self
Be proud of our achievements as we celebrate 100 years of Rotary.
